Accounting & Bookkeeping

Learn basic bookkeeping and accounting practices and principles for use in a wide range of business settings. This class emphasizes the general journal, general ledger, cash control, posting, worksheet, financial statements, and closing entries.
*QuickBooks I Instructor: Melanie StaakeThursdays, October 16 – December 11 (no class 11/27) 6 – 8:30 p.m.$175Learn how to run a small business using QuickBooks software. The course includes: set up a QuickBooks company and enter opening balances, set up inventory, process payments, use QuickBooks bank accounts, enter and pay bills, track credit card transactions, work with Asset, Liability and Equity accounts, track and pay sales taxes, do a payroll. Prerequisite: Bookkeeping experience or Accounting 1 are highly recommended.

Learn and practice the skills of electric welding, acetylene cutting, and MIG welding. Basic metal repair projects will be completed. Class size limited to 9.
Automotive Maintenance & Repair – Part 1 Instructor: Damon Jillson

Learn a wide range of basic auto maintenance & repair skills. Some of the topics we’ll cover include wheel balancing, alignment, suspension, fluid levels, lubrication system (and how to do a lubrication, oil & filter job), fuel system, and cooling system. This will be the ideal setting to work on your own car. The skills you learn will save you money – now, and for years to come.

Introduction to Woodworking Instructor: John Batten

Join us for this introduction to woodworking. Learn about hand and power tool use and maintenance and tool sharpening. We will work with planes, chisels, squares, table saws, chop saws and lathes. We will also learn about joint creation (rabbet, dado, and miter), use the lathe for wood-turning and do some woodcarving. This class is designed so that anyone will feel comfortable, no matter what their woodworking level may be.
Open Woodworking Shop Instructor: John Batten

If you’ve taken a woodworking class through RTCC before or if you are a more experienced woodworker, please join us for an open and assisted shop experience. Bring a project, use our tools and equipment, and get assistance with new skills or with tricky details.
Health Careers Courses

Computer Classes
RTCC is pleased to offer both daytime and evening computer classes.
For all computer classes except the Basic Skills Drop in Lab, students should have some experience with a mouse and basic computer vocabulary. Computer class sizes are limited, so please register early.

For those who have worked with Word but want to learn more about its many wonderful features. Topics will include: drawing tables, borders, shading, mail merge, labels, and much, much more. What can you do with a spreadsheet? Learn how to work with Excel to keep records, make charts, and work with numbers. We’ll create small spreadsheets, learn to do basic formatting, and work with templates.

Do you have some Excel experience but want to learn more? Bring your project and questions to class, and we will dig a little deeper. Topics include working with charts, multiple worksheets, mail merge using Word, working with external data, and pivot tables.

This course is for those who are new or fairly new to the use of Access. Course topics include: creating a new database, creating tables, determining appropriate fields, sorting & finding data, creating queries, importing & exporting files, creating reports, modifying reports, modifying forms, writing and running macros, and mail merge with Microsoft Word.
*Office 2007 Instructor: Ed Rooney
These classes are for those who have used Office 2003 and are now making (or are thinking about making) the switch to Office 2007. The newest version of Office has some significant changes from earlier versions. These classes will focus on helping you make a smooth transition to the new software while you learn more about the many new features that are there waiting for you to put them to use.

Digital Pictures Using Photoshop Elements

No camera necessary! We’ll talk about the ins and outs of working with digital pictures and manipulating images for screen, print, or e-mail using Photoshop Elements. Learn to crop, resize, color adjust, and use filters and layers to edit photos and other digital images.

Have an e-mail account but you’re not sure what to do with it? Don’t have an e-mail account and want to know what all the fuss is about? This class is a basic introduction to how e-mail works and what you can do with it. At the first class you’ll have the opportunity to create your own e-mail account if you don’t already have one. Students should have some experience using a mouse but do not need to have their own computer or e-mail account.

This will be a fun and educational introduction to the world of eBay. Learn to navigate the eBay site. Buying, bidding, and feedback will all be covered, as will eBay/internet safety tips. RTCC is pleased to collaborate with Button-Up Vermont to offer this free home energy saving workshop. Come and learn from a certified energy auditor good tips for weatherizing your home and saving energy – and money! The workshop will cover: how your home loses energy; some of the most cost-effective solutions for saving energy; what you can do yourself and when you need a professional; basic weatherization and energy conservation tips; health & safety issues associated with improving efficiency; and technical & financial resources that are available. While this workshop is free, space is limited, and registration is required.

1500 hours total instruction time/2 year program to prepare for VT licensing
$3500 for first year of program
Students learn hair cutting, perming, coloring, waxing, manicuring, pedicuring, facials, make-up, and hairstyling. Course cost includes tuition, textbooks, materials, and access to wholesale supplies. Financial aid and payment plans are available.

An introduction to AutoCAD 2008, focusing on the basic commands needed to create 2 dimensional drawings. This will be a hands-on computer drafting class.

Are you and a family member interested in taking a class together? We offer family discounts for all classes except Basic Welding and LNA. Family members of all ages are welcome! Senior Citizen Discount
For those aged 62 and up, there is a 10% discount. Additional discounts may be possible on a space-available basis for classes meeting minimum enrollments. Please call the Adult Education Office at 728-9595 ext. 106 for more information.
Attention Vermont Employers
Through a collaboration with the Vermont Training Program, Vermont Department of Economic Development, RTCC may be able to offer a 50% discount for those employed by companies in the Manufacturing, IT, Environmental, Telecommunications, and Health Care fields. Please call the Adult Education Office at 728-9595 ext. 106 for more information. Approved courses are marked with a * and include Basic Welding, Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA), Beginning & Intermediate Word, Beginning & Intermediate Excel, Microsoft Access, Office 2007, Accounting, and QuickBooks.
Refunds & Cancellations
Tuition refunds will be made only if you notify the Adult Education Office by 4 p.m. on the Thursday before the class is scheduled to begin. RTCC will cancel classes that do not meet minimum enrollment requirements. If this occurs, registrants will be notified, and refunds will be made.
Other Learning Opportunities
In addition to our scheduled adult education classes, RTCC is also able to offer customized training for employers. Please call us if you have a course that you would like to offer to your employees.
